About

About Wildcrest Journal

A small journal about routes, seasons and the practical detail that decides whether a trip works, written by people who went first.

Wildcrest Journal began as a shared folder between three travelers who kept answering the same questions for friends: how long the walk really takes, which week the crowds arrive, what a day costs once the small items are added up. The answers lived in message threads and notes apps, so we put them here instead, in pages that stay specific and get updated when the details move.

Notebook, compass and map on a wooden table

Maren Kowalczyk writes the trail and route pages, measuring distances, ascent and walking times on the ground rather than from a map scale. Tobias Renner covers mountain towns and city stops, photographing in the light he actually had and writing down what things cost. Priya Vasquez handles budgets and transport, keeping a spreadsheet of every trip so the arithmetic can be copied rather than guessed.

How the guides are checked

Every route is walked, ridden or driven before it is written about. Prices come from the ticket window, hours from the operator, and timings from a phone in a pocket. When a line closes or a price moves, the page is updated in the same week and the change is noted at the foot of the guide.

Why the journal stays independent

No paid placement inside the routes, no sponsored stops, no hotel that bought a paragraph. Where a link earns anything it says so in the text, and the recommendation stands on its own regardless. The tests we run on the road leave no room for a paid detour.
